The new hospital building is part of the existing complex of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine’s hospital facilities. Its construction is driven by the need to modernize the medical infrastructure and create a multifunctional, safe, and highly efficient treatment hub that meets modern standards of medical care.
The site is located in the historically established Lychakivskyi district, which has long been a center of the city’s medical sphere. Conceptually, the architecture of the new building is based on principles of restraint, integration into the historical environment, and functional rationality. The facade and spatial design aim for harmonious coexistence with the hospital’s historic main building, which is a locally significant architectural monument. The objective was not only aesthetic integration but also compliance with the preservation regulations applicable to this area.
Functionally, the new building includes several key departments: admissions, outpatient clinic, rehabilitation, inpatient ward (with 50 beds), and surgical unit. Additionally, the basement level houses dual-purpose facilities (with shelter capability), as well as laboratory and utility blocks. This spatial organization ensures flexible and uninterrupted operation of the medical facility under any circumstances.
The building is oriented to make the most of southern, southeastern, and southwestern sunlight. This has a positive effect on the natural lighting of the interior spaces, especially patient rooms, rehabilitation areas, and public zones. This daily light dynamic helps prevent overheating on the western facades and ensures consistent daylight exposure throughout the day.
The architecture of the building is designed in a restrained, minimalist style with clean lines and a neutral color palette. The structure does not draw attention to itself but instead integrates harmoniously into the historical environment, adhering to preservation regulations and respecting the context of the existing buildings.
The historic hospital building is an example of early 20th-century architecture. The new construction does not imitate this style but maintains respect for the historical character, while remaining a modern and functional part of the complex.
